Identity & Moving On After Brain Injury

Most people’s lives are more satisfying when they have a clear picture of what they want for themselves. When people develop a mental image of how to achieve their goals, their sense of hope is strengthened.

Someone you know, perhaps even you, might have dreams or hopes, but not know how to take the action needed to get a job, start a business, finish school, build meaningful relationships, or even communicate their needs or desires. Or perhaps they’re focused on what is wrong in their lives, living without hope or a sense of what the future could be.

Without a plan or map for the future an important tool for making life all that it can be is missing. At BEST we know how hard it is to figure out what’s next after a brain injury. We know how hard it is to explain to family, doctors, and friends just what is happening in your head.

We also know how fulfilling and valuable life can be with the right support and tools.

Identity & Moving On After Brain Injury is a proven program that provides a guided process to help create a plan for the future and gather the tools and strategies needed to carry out that plan. We use a process that helps individuals create a mental map that illustrates what is likely to be helpful and what may be barriers to creating a better future.

The foundation of our work is the Moving On: A Personal Futures Planning Workbook For Individuals With Brain Injury 2nd Edition. This workbook was created by the Research and Training Center on Community Integration of Individuals with Brain Injury, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY. The Brain Energy Support Team (BEST) has full permission from Dr Wayne Gordon to use this material as part of our Project PEER and Empowered Self programs.
